Gyula Körös Terrace Design Competition

Description:

The concpet design was awarded first place on the design competition for the riverside terraces in Gyula, organised by Gyula Council. Wildscape Projects followed an ambitious idea to make this site the starting point of a new urban green narrative which treats the green blue network of the city as a whole and reconnects the special riverine ecology of the Körös to the urban circulation. The planning area near Kapus Bridge could become the first phase of a long term revitalisation concept.

The proposal offers an architectural solution that blends into the natural surrounding, touches the water, the planting crawls up on the terraces and loose arrangement of trees provide shade on the south facing terraces, whilst the planting proposal creates intimate and more open niches that provide space for individual contemplation or group picnics. The lower terrace also provides direct access to the water, thus encouraging using the Körös canal as a waterway.
